Dial in maintenance

Brush chalk after every WOD and add a light oil wipe weekly. Cerakote bars still need TLC to prevent sleeve squeaks.

Program-specific bars

Keep one “class bar” and one “strength cycle” bar if budgets allow. Rotation extends lifespan during open gym drops.

Noise control

Crash pads + urethane bumpers keep neighbors happy. Bearings spin louder—perfect them for comp day, bushings for daily use.

CrossFit bar FAQ

Do I need bearings for CrossFit?

Not unless you focus on high-level weightlifting. Composite or bronze bushings provide plenty of spin with less maintenance and quieter drops.

What coating lasts longest in a humid gym?

Stainless is king, Cerakote second. Black zinc looks sharp but chips sooner when slammed on concrete.

How many barbells should an affiliate stock?

Aim for one bar per two members in peak classes plus 2–3 dedicated technique bars for newbies.
